With so many holiday activities available this time of year it can be hard to choose which events are worthy of your precious and limited holiday time.  I am here to tell you why the Tomball German Christmas Market in downtown Tomball, TX should be at the top of your list.

Reason #1 - SMALL TOWN FEEL WITH BIG CITY PERKS

This German Christmas Market (German Christkindl Markt) is nestled into historic downtown Tomball, TX.  It is a charming area that was originally settled by German immigrants.  Tomball was once a small town that has been overtaken by Houston urban sprawl.  However, this town has managed to maintain its small town vibe and friendliness which makes it so fun to visit compared to other big city holiday markets.

Reason #2- PEOPLE BEHIND THE SCENES ARE GOOD PEOPLE

One of the best perks about being a vendor or patron is that the folks that run this event are so darn friendly and just good people.  Having people like this behind the scenes running all aspects of the event results in high quality and genuine relationships between the event and the vendors and the performers.  And when this happens, the quality of the event goes way up.  The daily visitor and shopper will discover higher quality vendors and top notch entertainment.   I can say that working with the Tomball German Festival staff is like working with friends.  And this happiness and friendliness is contagious and passes along from staff to vendors to entertainment to the folks visiting.  Everyone is in a good mood…and that positive energy is electric.

Reason #3- GREAT MIX OF GERMAN AUTHENTICITY AND AMERICAN EXPECTATIONS

The Tomball German Christmas Market does a wonderful job of bringing in authentic experiences of a German Christkindl Markt.  You will likely find many authentic German gifts & apparel, a great selection of German food including traditional desserts, warm German Gluhwein (mulled wine) and fabulous traditional German music and entertainment.  But you will also find other great options for shopping such as local artisans and great antique shops right in the middle of all the action.  There is also a carnival with your typical American carnival food available if bratwurst, sauerkraut and schnitzel aren’t at the top of your food faves.

Reason #4- THE FESTIVAL IS PET FRIENDLY

One of the highlights of the festival is simply sitting back and watching all the cute animals parade by in their holiday best costumes.  For many folks, our 4-legged friends are a part of the family.  And when you go to an open-air market as fun as this one, you want to bring the entire family.  So if you decide to come out, bring your pet…or at least bring your camera because you will likely find a furry friend with whom you must take a selfie.

Reason #5- STROLLING STREET PERFORMERS

I don’t know what it is about strolling street performers but they can make an average event awesome!  In Tomball you are sure to bump into Mr Gene on accordion walking up and down Main Street playing festive squeezebox tunes while wearing a big smile. Megan the Christmas elf will show up to share a photo op but good luck learning the elfin language she speaks…it’s tougher than German.  And a German Christmas market would not be complete without a visit from a glorious Christmas Angel and Saint Nicholas (Sankt Nikolaus) himself.
