Addison Kicks Off Oktoberfest Season in Texas!

Search “Oktoberfest Celebrations in Texas” and you will quickly see that Addison Oktoberfest is at the top of the list!  The town of Addison is located immediately north of Dallas and has been celebrating Oktoberfest for almost 30 years.  The event takes place in the beautiful, 10 acre “Addison Circle Park”.  This year the celebration runs from September 15-18, 2016.

There will be lots of “Prost”-ing and toasting over the course of the weekend as Paulaner German beer will be in plenty.  More than 70,000 people of all ages will take part in the festivities to enjoy delicious, authentic German food in addition to cold brew.  There will be lots of oompah music, chicken dancing and other live entertainment throughout the park!  Adults can take part in the bier barrel rolling competition while the children are thoroughly entertained each day with a variety of activities including the popular weenie dog races, a German spelling bee, splash pad and a big carnival.  Also, the event offers some of the best craft and merchandise vendors in the state of Texas for an incredible shopping experience.  Here you will find everything from authentic German steins to fun t-shirts to cool crafts.

The music and entertainment starts at 6pm on both Thursday and Friday evenings with the O’Zapft Is! Keg Tapping Ceremony at 8pm. This traditional ceremony marks the official kickoff of the Oktoberfest celebration with the Mayor of Addison tapping the first keg of beer.   A special 5K run takes place on Saturday morning benefiting the “Wipe Out Kids Cancer” organization since October is Childhoold Cancer Awareness month.  Sunday is DACHSunday which includes a day full of fur-friendly activities, including a weenie dog parade, races and an agility course. Fun stuff right?

If you have never been to the Addison Oktoberfest, you REALLY should plan to make the trip.  Area hotels offer great packages and it is truly an experience you will never forget!  So dust off your Dirndl, put on those Lederhosen and start your Texas Oktoberfest circuit in Addison!  Prost!!
