St Charles Oktoberfest celebrates its 30th year of bringing the fun-filled German Oktoberfest tradition to St Charles, Missouri. So we have decided to load up a trailer full of German wares and make the trek across 2 states to see what it’s all about. Saint Charles is a beautiful city located northwest of St. Louis, Missouri. The three day festival is held in Frontier Park situated along the Missouri River from September 23-25, 2016. The Historic Downtown District is just steps away from the park area where the event takes place.
This family friendly festival begins at 4pm on Friday afternoon. The opening ceremony takes place in the Hofbrau Tent at 5:30pm and features the official tapping of the first keg of beer. Various genres of live music and dance groups will perform on several stages all evening long. And make sure to check out one of our favorites, Das Glockenspiel! Their performances are always hilarious and a huge crowd pleaser. Another crowd pleaser and amazing talent is Alex Meixner, polka rock star extraordinaire who will have performances all three days!
Saturday is full of fun events, such as the Weiner Dog Derby, the Samuel Adams Stein Hoisting Competition and the Swiss Meats Brat Eating Contest. The Junior Diabetes Research Foundation hosts a one mile walk to raise funds for this special cause. And, of course, the day is also filled with lots of music, dancing, German food and German beer (bier if you are wanting to keep it authentic).
They call Sunday – FUNDAY! The day opens with the Root Beer Fun Run, followed by an Antique Car Show, the Budweiser Clydesdales and a Pumpkin Chunkin’ Catapult!! Various yard games will take place throughout the day, which include Jenga, Washers and Yard Pong. Sunday also features discounted beer and wine!! Anytime the words “cheap” and “beer” are mentioned, Germans tend to take notice. I predict a large turnout on Sunday.
So we are almost loaded up and will be hitting the road soon to finally experience how Missouri celebrates Oktoberfest. This is gonna be fun. Beer, bratwurst, strudel, schnitzel and did I say beer? And this is supposed to be work? Just enjoying the perks of the job. Prost!Sources:
