On the road again…this time our road team is bound for Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Linde Tulsa Oktoberfest! This will be our fourth visit to this Oktoberfest celebration held at the beautiful River West Festival Park on the Arkansas River from October 19-23, 2016. The skyscrapers across the river in downtown Tulsa glisten in the sunlight and twinkle at night creating an amazing backdrop for this wonderfully authentic Oktoberfest celebration. Linde Tulsa Oktoberfest is one of our favorite German festivals of the year and is even ranked by USA Today as one of the Top Ten Oktoberfest festivals in the United States.
The producers of this event have personally visited Munich (home of the original celebration) and they have come very close to representing one of the most authentic Bavarian culture experiences in the country. After completely renovating the park before their 2015 event, they have created a layout like no other. The festival now boasts multiple large tents each housing different traditional German beer (bier) brands as well as local craft beers and domestic favorites. With over 80 brands to choose from it’s best to pace yourself and make your way from one tent to the next so you can enjoy the many amazing ice cold brews the festival has to offer. You will find Hofbrau Oktoberfest beer, the official beer of Munich, and Paulaner beer varieties within the Die Bierstube Sam Adams tent. Spaten and Franziskaner will be pouring in the Spaten tent. Hand crafted breweries like Marshall Brewery and Dead Armadillo Brewery are also available if you wish to try something maybe you have never tried before.
The entertainment is phenomenal! Some of the bands are flown straight in from Germany to perform during this five day event! However you can also find some amazing German polka bands from here in the US including Alex Meixner and also the Chardon Polka Band. And if you are thinking these bands are the traditional oompah bands that only your Oma and Opa would like well think again. These young super talented musicians are funny, high energy and exude a contagious fun vibe across the entire tent and will surprise you with some of your favorite rock n roll tunes polka style! The Linde Tulsa Oktoberfest also offers a variety of music to include country, rock and dueling pianos!
Is being in a bier barrel race on your bucket list? You can cross it off the list by entering the contest. Or maybe the Masskrug carry relay race is more your style. Perhaps you want to flaunt your skills in the Stein Hoisting Competitions held each evening in the various beer tents. Lots of options, lots of fun and lots of guaranteed laughter.
In its 38th year the German traditions are still going strong. There will be no shortage of delicious German foods from schnitzel to gourmet pretzels to sweet and savory strudels. People from all over the world come to enjoy the fun with amazement, especially when the Das Glockenspiel comes to life every hour on the hour with their unique skits and humor.
Shopping for authentic German beer steins, Oktoberfest souvenirs, beer boots or even a pair of Bavarian lederhosen is at your fingertips in the craft and vendor areas. You can’t find these things at Walmart so consider completing a little early Christmas shopping for some unique items while you’re visiting!
A special area has been created just for the kids, too. Next to the incredible carnival, you will find the JugendZelt (Children’s Tent) featuring magic, circus fun and much more. And an Oktoberfest just wouldn’t be the same without seeing a parade and procession of adorable little Dachshunds in costume. The parade as well as the 40M Dachshund Dash are held on Sunday afternoon and are always a hit for families with children. Tulsa Oktoberfest truly offers fun for everyone!
So bring your family, bring your friends and prepare to make some fabulous memories in Tulsa this weekend…Prost!
Corporate night begins Wednesday, Oct 19 while Thursday, Oct 20 – Sunday, Oct 23 is open to the public.
